(& What I Don't Do)
As a Metabolic Psychiatry and Ketogenic Therapy Peer Navigator, I support individuals who have already decided to explore ketogenic therapy and metabolic approaches to mental health. My role is collaborative, navigational, and peer-support based. I share resources, research, and lived experience to help you navigate lifestyle changes, process your metabolic health journey, and collaborate effectively with your healthcare team.
We can discuss the following, as peers:
Share personal lived experience
Direct you to external professional resources & research
Anticipating potential needs & where to go for help (i.e. how to obtain medical, nutritional, emotional support, etc.)
How to self-advocate in medical and professional situations
Finding current professional literature and recommendations about navigating this emerging approach to mental health
Exchanging personal stories and strategies for success
Discussing personal barriers and challenges
We can experiment with new recipes together (chosen by you)
Exploring new topics together, such as how to use a food scale, how to read food labels, shopping trip tips, or how to adapt to a new lifestyle
If you would like, I am willing to share my own experiences. My personal experience must never be taken as advice for your situation.
Tips to navigate the health care system (specifically for Canadian Ontarians)
I am not working in the role of a medical provider, dietitian, or psychotherapist in this context.
I do not:
Prescribe, diagnose, or recommend specific medical treatments.
Provide individualized nutrition or medication plans.
Tell you what is safe or is not safe.
Recommend a specific course of action in regards to your health.
Offer crisis intervention, counselling, or psychotherapy.
Act as a health professional in any capacity.
Tell you if any decision is right for you
In addition to my own peer experiences, I have invested in training courses that have given me insight into where to go in order to find relevant information about metabolic psychiatry that has been developed and curated by professional, reputable sources. I can provide you with navigation and peer-support surrounding external sources of professional information but I will never offer specific direction or advice to influence your choices. You must be comfortable making your own choices & collaborating with medical professionals in order to be a suitable candidate peer navigation. Please remember that each and every individual situation is complex and unique!
Please reach out if you have any questions about peer navigation.
